Looking Out For Others
Read Phillippians 2:3-8
Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others. -Philippians 2:4
In giving of ourselves, we manifest the essence of Jesus’ character, for it has always been His nature to think more about others than He thinks of Himself. Why else would He humble Himself and become “obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross” (Phil. 2:8).

Our natural tendency is to consider our own interests first—to look at everything from the perspective of our own needs and wants. But with Jesus’ help we can unlearn that habit. We can begin to think of the best interests of others—their wants, their concerns, their needs.
And so we must ask ourselves: Do we consider others’ interests more important than our own? Do we get as excited about what God is doing in and through them as we do about what He is doing in and through us? Do we long to see others grow in grace and gain recognition, though it may have been our efforts that made them successful? Do we find satisfaction in seeing our spiritual children surpass us in the work they are called to do? If so, such is the measurement of greatness.
We are most like our Lord when our thoughts for ourselves are lost in our thoughts for others. There is no greater love than that (John 15:13). -David. H Roper

Memerhatikan Orang Lain
Baca Filipi 2:3-8
Dan janganlah tiap-tiap orang hanya memperhatikan kepentingannya sendiri, tetapi kepentingan orang lain juga. -Filipi 2:4
Dalam mempersembahkan diri, kita menunjukkan inti dari karakter Yesus, karena sudah menjadi sifat-Nya untuk lebih memikirkan orang lain daripada diri-Nya sendiri. Itulah sebabnya Ia merendahkan diri-Nya sendiri dan "taat sampai mati bahkan mati di kayu salib" (Flp. 2:8).
Kecenderungan alami kita adalah selalu mendahulukan kepentingan kita sendiri—melihat segala sesuatu berdasarkan sudut pandang dari kebutuhan dan keinginan kita. Namun dengan pertolongan Yesus, kita dapat belajar meninggalkan kebiasaan tersebut. Kita dapat mulai untuk memikirkan kepentingan orang lain—keinginan, persoalan, dan kebutuhan mereka.
Dengan demikian, kita harus menanyakan pada diri sendiri: Apakah kita menempatkan kepentingan orang lain di atas kepentingan kita sendiri? Apakah kita bersukacita atas apa yang Allah lakukan di dalam dan melalui diri mereka sama seperti yang Ia lakukan di dalam dan melalui diri kita? Apakah kita rindu untuk melihat orang lain bertumbuh dalam anugerah dan memperoleh pengakuan, walaupun mungkin sebenarnya usaha kitalah yang membuat mereka berhasil? Apakah kita menemukan kepuasan ketika melihat anak-anak rohani kita melebihi kita dalam pelayanan yang mereka lakukan? Kalau jawabannya ya, itulah arti kebesaran yang sesungguhnya.
Kita makin serupa dengan Tuhan ketika perhatian kita lebih tertuju kepada kepentingan orang lain daripada kepentingan diri sendiri. Tidak ada kasih yang lebih besar daripada itu (Yoh. 15:13). -DHR
Alasan terbaik untuk melakukan yang benar hari ini adalah demi hari esok.
